What is Tonkatsu?

Tonkatsu is a deep-fried breaded pork cutlet. There are two main types, the lean and tender hire (tenderloin or filet) and the fattier rosu (loin). It is typically served with shredded cabbage and miso soup. Tonkatsu originated in Japan in the 19th century in Tokyo and was inspired by European cuisine.
